Halloween's Dark Past

        In order to understand what Halloween is today, we need to study it's past. In 835 A.D. Pope Gregory IV designated Nov. 1st as All Saints Day or All Hallow's Day. ( the term Hallow means: bless, consecrate, sanctify, or render holy by religious rites) The eve before All Saint's Day is Oct.31, known as All Hallow's Evening. We get the condensed version of Halloween by dropping the "All", the "s", "v", and ing.  Today, most people are confused over the issue of Halloween. Should Christians participate in such a dark pagan practice? 

        Now that we have seen where we get the name for Halloween, let's see where the practices of Halloween originate. Oct. 31 is already established as being part of the Celtic New Year. The Celts and their Druid priest began their New Year on Nov .1, which marked the beginning of winter. They apparently believed that on Oct. 31, the night before their New Year and the last day of the old year, the Lord of Death (Samhain) gathered the souls of the evil dead who had been condemned to enter the bodies of animals. He then would decide what animal form they would take for the next year. Druids also believe by offering sacrifices, prayers, and gifts to the Lord of Death, that the punishment of the evil dead could be lightened. For those who had died during the preceding twelve months, Samhain would allow their spirits to return to the earth for a few hours to associate with their families. Thus, the Celts believe on their  New Years Eve ( our Halloween ) ghosts, evil spirits, and witches roam about. On this night, evil or frustrated ghosts were also supposed to play tricks on humans and to cause supernatural manifestations. The Samhain celebration is not unique, many festivals world-wide celebrate a time the dead return to mingle with the living.

                             Can we talk to the dead?    

          Hebrews 9:27 states that: " And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." 

    God tells us that we can only communicate with our loved ones while they are still alive. After someone dies, he or she will be judged and will go to either Heaven or Hell. It is an abomination for anyone to practice communicating with the dead. (Deuteronomy:18:10-14) When someone attempts to contact the dead, they are in reality, interacting with a demon.

 

                                                                                                               

                                                

                                                       Jack-O-Lantern                 

   There are a few probable influences for the Jack-O-Lantern such as: witches carrying skulls with candles in them to coven meetings. Another is the legend of Irish Jack, where a drunk named Jack tricked the Devil in climbing an apple tree then cut the sign of the cross in the trunk of the tree preventing the Devil from coming down. Then he made the Devil swear never to come after his soul. The Devil agreed, and eventually Jacked  died and was turned away at the gates of Heaven for being a drunk. He was sent to Hell where the Devil kept his promise and condemned him to wander the earth. As he was leaving Hell, he happened to be eating a turnip, and then the Devil threw a live coal at him which he put in his turnip and he has been forever roaming the earth with his Jack-O-Lantern. Eventually the pumpkin replaced the turnip. The carved faces represent damned or lost souls.

 Since Halloween night was known for evil spirits roaming free, the Druids wore masks to prevent the evil spirits from recognizing them. Another custom, and even still practiced today in Wicca and other neo-pagan cults, is that of wearing animal heads and skins to acquire the strength or power of that particular animal.    

 

                                                    Trick or Treat            

   The "Trick" custom of Halloween is related to the  idea that Ghosts and witches   create mischief on this  particular night. If the living didn't provide food or "Treats" for the 

    spirits, they would "Trick" the living. People feared that horrible things would happen to them if they didn't offer the spirits gifts. 

      Black Cats                                                                                             

   Thought to be the reincarnation of the evil dead and they are believed to have supernatural powers and knowledge.

 Note: Most Humane Societies and pet shops do not allow black cats to be bought or adopted through the month of October due to animal sacrifices.

 

 

    

Life is full of questions and equally full of many different answers.
Is there truth... and if there is, how does one know that it is? Who determines truth?
Are there absolutes?

The reason for these questions is an overwhelming confusion and delusion concerning truth.
It is my contention, that most people believe that all things are relative, and truth is what
you believe it to be. In other words, there are no absolutes, and what is right for you
may not be right for someone else.


Are there absolutes? Is it possible to know truth?

Let me start of by making a few simple, but true, statements.
*Consider this: Love is the opposite of hate. These are two opposing forces.
*Here is another observable fact: Only humans can conceive humans.
In other words, humans cannot have a kittens and cats cannot have human babies.
*Blue and yellow make green.
*All living things die.

It is obvious that from just a few observable facts, that there are absolutes.
There are some things that are set in stone and cannot be changed.
As we have concluded from the above, Love is the opposite of Hate. Love also covers or eliminates hate.
Is love observable around the globe? Where does love come from and why is it so powerful?
Why do we long to be loved and why do we want to fall in love?
Without love... what is left?

I know this may seem to be a strange place to begin... but it is one that
will show that LOVE bears TRUTH and HATE brings forth LIES.

What is truth?
Let's begin by laying a solid foundation...

Every position starts with a presupposition, meaning, we have a belief or bias before we even know the facts, which dictates how we interpret those facts. What I mean is, if one believes in God, they will see things with a Biblical world view, and that belief will reflect in the interpretation of the facts. If one believes that there is no God, and we are here by random chance, they too will view the facts in a different way than those with a Biblical world view. Everyone is bias. So... who's bias is right?

You may say... "they are all right", I would submit to you, that is not a well thought out answer. If you mean they are all right in their beliefs because all things are relative, you in fact are stating there are no absolutes. We have just proven that there are absolutes. The fact you say that there are no absolutes, reveals that there are.

You may be screaming, "truth can't be known, it's what you believe it to be", well... again, we have shown that truth exists and can be observed. If in fact truth is only what one deems it to be, then who sets the boundaries? Example: If I were to believe that it is OK to have sexual relations with a five year old child, and you do not, who's right? Why would it be wrong? Another example: Why would it be wrong to take a bunch of kittens and throw them in a creek? Remember it's what I think is truth, and I don't think that it is wrong. What we start to see happen without absolute truth is chaos and life with no boundaries.

Let's take a look at the truth that evolution presents:
I'm sorry, there is none. Leaves you feeling a little empty, doesn't it? Seriously, evolution is just another religion with no facts, a lot of lies, and NO truth. It's foundation is built upon the idea that there is no creator and we are left to our own desires and interpretation of truth. Someone once said something that would sum up this view, his name was Alister Crowley,a notorious Satanist. He is not the first nor the last to say this, but most probable, he is the most remembered. What he said was this: " Do what thou wilt ".
You see... with no God, there is no right or wrong, only selfish desires. We are no more than animals.


Is there scientific evidence to support evolution?
Below is what evolution teaches and is still published in
school text books even though it has been proven to be
wrong. So why do they still publish this lie?

The media is heavily involved in promoting evolution.
The Discovery Channel spends millions of dollars on
many high tech miniseries to try and present the
religion of evolution as a fact.
The well known National Geographic could be
considered a ministry for evolution. They are still
making statements (that have been proven wrong)
that "Lucy" is a major link in the chain of evolution.

Every time I turn around there is something the "church"
is debating. Sure we are to try or test things and hold fast that
which is good. The Bible teaches us that. But, I tell you
that there are things that God declares that are wrong and there
is NO debating.
When things are clear and consistent in the Word
of God we need not to change it or challenge it.

God's Word makes it crystal clear
in Matthew 19:4-6 Jesus states:
" Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother,and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain (meaning two) shall become one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder."

Here we see Jesus quoting Genesis 1:27 & 2:24. First we are told that: God created two people in the beginning. He made Adam who was created as a MAN. Then God in Genesis 2:21 created a WOMAN from Adam's rib, and because God made Eve from a part of Adam, Adam called this new creation Woman. Then we are told that when a MAN is to get married, HE is to leave HIS father (a MAN) and mother (a WOMAN) and cleave unto HIS wife (a WOMAN) and they shall become one flesh. This becoming one flesh is symbolic and represents when God made Eve from Adam's rib. Even when the marriage is consummated, this too is representative of WOMAN coming from MAN as they become one flesh.

The Lord God made a MAN and a WOMAN and deisgned them to procreate. He designed the institution of marriage and told us that we are to leave our parents (who are to be male and female) and marry someone of the OPPOSITE sex. God did NOT create Male & Male nor did he create Female & Female.

The book of Romans 1:26&27 puts it this way:

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their own lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

So... God looks at women, who He created to be with men, to be vile and not natural if they are in a relationship with another woman. Likewise for the man who is in a relationship with another man, God also views this as vile and wrong. It's not natural and it is NOT the way God created it to be. Jesus died for the sins of the world including the sin of homosexuality. This lifestyle is destructive physically, mentally, and spiritually. It's not something you are born with... it is a choice, just as a pedophile, rapist, liar, or a murderer has a choice. God loves you and wants you to ask for forgiveness for your sins and He will give you life and set you free! (John 3:3)
